Migrants were arriving in Melbourne with a new hope and a new beginning, a fresh start. They bought with them skills and culture. Their work ethic was strong and they worked very hard, but they missed their families and friends back in Greece. For a lot of migrants that found life in Australia was hard and had missed a lot of things, but one thing they missed most was food. Australia was rich in agriculture, meat stock was abundant but expensive. Migrants found comfort in their food and was something they were familiar with, the taste of their home that they left behind. Food and culture was that most important aspects of a migrant identity that they could take anywhere. So it begins.
